Blood Will Out

Head Like A Hole

This is Head Like a Hole's first album since 1999's 'Are ya gonna Kiss it or Shoot it: IV'. After a hiatus of 7 years the band was asked to reform for a one off gig, This lead to a new passion and the decision to record Blood Will Out. Recorded at York Street and Mixed by Andrew Buckton at 203 with production by Andrew Buckton and HLAH. A different departure from previous albums with the addition of Andrew Ashton (The Larry Normans) on guitar replacing Tom Watson (Cassette) and the continuation of Mike Franklin-Browne (Pluto) on the drum stool.A lot of the songs had been written by Nigel Regan after the band had split up who would send them to Booga not really thinking anything would come of it. One of those songs went on to become the now classic 'Glory Glory (Hallelujah).
The songs were constructed over a year as band members live in different cities with the actual recording and mixing taking about two weeks.

Below is a link to an interview with Nigel Regan July 2011 on the upcoming release Blood Will Out.

A Crying Shame EP

Head Like A Hole

Recorded when we had an idea that everyone would pick a cover and we'd Record it. We did Summer Knights because Andrew Durno was always playing the intro and we thought 'let's get it out of his system' it became a great live track. Wrathchild was a concensus if memory serves me right (which it won't) and Booga Beazley picked 'I'm on Fire' which to this day is a fan favorite and always goes down gangbusters live. It also had HLAH playing on a roof top in Wellington for a video that Brian from Flying Fish production company mad after hearing the track. The irony is that the video was worth about $100,000 (it didn't cost that) while the track was recorded on Reel to Reel 8-Track with only 7 tracks working that only cost us our time.

SML - Is That It?

Head Like A Hole

This album came about when Jon Toogood from Shihad and Nigel Regan of Head Liike a Hole started messing around with a 4-track jon had just bought. Songs started appearing like the haunting Mixdown and from there Tom Larkin (also from Shighad) was roped in and it was decided that they would go into the studio and record a few tracks with Brent McLachlan (of Bailter Space fame) in Bailter Space's recording studio in Martin Square in Wellington. Then some other tracks were recorded while al this time there was no intention of releasing any of it.
While both bands were touring Europe in the mid 90's Murray Cammick the label owner of Wildside got in touch and asked about the possibility of releasing it. So some pens and paper were handed to booga beazley and within an hour or two he had whipped up the artwork which was sent to Murray and there you have it. 'Is that it? by the SML. That was in fact it apart from one EP released before the album. It's a fantastic album with a mixture of lo-fi and hi-fi and you can hear the band having fun as in the song 'Mixdown' where you hear Jon laugh as he realises the lyrics are working which were being read of the Instruction manual for the 4-track. The instructions for Mixdown of course....
